Sydney and Tom’s Main Street Abbey wedding in Columbia IL was a heartwarming day centered around the splendor of their love story. Hearts and hands gathered on a beautiful fall day to honor the union of Sydney and Tom. Beloved friends and cherished family spent the day in celebration side by side with the bride and groom.
When Sydney and Tom were still mapping out the details of their wedding, I asked them to provide me with three words they felt best summarized their dream wedding. The words they chose were classy, fun, and celebration. The reason I typically ask for such short descriptors is because I find the answers to be so telling. Watching those intentions manifest on a couple’s wedding day, from just three words, allows me to see the bigger picture. Thus allowing me to be tuned in to what matters to them most and capturing every detailed moment as it unravels.
In addition to their fun-focused celebration, Sydney and Tom also planned a Main Street Abbey wedding day filled with intention. They centered their attention on details that made their union symbolic and relevant. For example, during their vows, they planned a breakaway unity ceremony. Typically, for a unity ceremony, most couples will light a unity candle or perform a sand pouring. But Sydney and Tom took their unity ceremony a step further. They collected dirt from each of their childhood homes to use for the ceremony. Beautifully representing the blending of two families and two souls who have chosen to embark on life’s journey together. The carefully planned details did not end with their childhood homes. The cake knife displayed during their reception at Main Street Abbey is a family heirloom. It has been passed down and utilized again and again among couples in Sydney’s family on their wedding day.

But the fun was still yet to come. Forgoing the traditional limo ride, Sydney and Tom decided instead to enlist the help of a local Trolley to transport them along with the members of their wedding party. Allowing them to keep the celebratory mood vibrant and energetic the whole day long! In fact, it was in front of the trolley where Sydney and Tom decided to pop a bottle of bubbly. An epic spray of champagne filled the streets as their wedding party cheered in the background.
As they made their way to the wedding reception at Main Street Abbey, the best was still yet to come. Sydney and Tom chose the space to host their wedding celebration owing to its character. They were searching for a local wedding venue that had a more formal feeling, yet could easily be transformed to suit their vision. The wedding venue offers crisp white walls with sky-high ceilings, accented by arched cloisters. Sydney and Tom added their spin to the space and leaned into the black and white color palette while also adding in a dash of purple, tying together all the elements of the space for a cohesive aesthetic.
